Week 1 (26/08/19 - 01/09/19)

Lecture

For the first class, Mr. Redzwan had a few instructions for us:

  • Use our own laptop
  • Adobe Illustrator
  • Get a visual Journal: A4 size
  • Get a sketchbook: A4 size
  • Mr. Redzwan also suggested for us to not use white paper, and use brown paper instead. He explains it is because our minds will go blank when we use white paper. He also brief us on our continuous assignment and assessments where we had to do 5 pages of drawings per week where each week we will be given a different theme. We were allowed to use pencils to draft our sketches but ultimately, we had to use pens to fineline the drawing. He also instructed us to use a camera scanner to scan the drawings and then upload it into Google Classroom.

    Sketchbook Exercise - Fish

For the first week, we were tasked to draw fish in our sketchbook. So, I opted to draw 5 different fish. For the first page, I drew Koi fish. Drawing Koi fish was quite hard for me, as I wasn't used to drawing anything other than humans. So I struggled a bit with Koi fish.

For the second page, I drew goldfish. Drawing goldfish was easier for me as I did draw some goldfish before, and I still vaguely remember their anatomy and structure.
    Fig 1.2: Goldfish

For the third page, I sketched one dory fish. The reason why I only sketched one fish for the subsequent drawings was because I got confused for awhile and thought that I was only supposed to draw one fish per page.

For the fourth page, I drew a clownfish.
For the fifth page, I drew a catfish. However it did not really look like a catfish.

    Week 2 (02/09/19 - 08/09/19)

    Lecture

I did not attend the second lecture as Campus Central told me that I could not take this module to the seat availability.

    Sketchbook Exercise - Bugs

For the second week, the theme given to us by Mr. Redzwan was bugs. Due to Campus Central not allowing me to take the module, I started the sketches later in the week. We were to use boxes he showed during the lecture. However as I did not attend the lecture and I had no response from Mr. Redzwan after sending him a message, I did not know what type of boxes I was supposed to use. I decided on drawing 5 different bugs, 1 type of bug for each page.

I decided on drawing spiders, ants, cockroaches, grasshoppers and bees. I did draw boxes however it was too light and therefore not visible in the pictures.

     Week 3 (09/09/19 - 15/09/19)

    Lecture

For the third lecture, Mr. Redzwan explained to us three perspectives: one point perspective, two point perspective and three point perspective. He said this was taught in the previous lecture.

One point perspective is when a drawing contains only one vanishing point on the horizon line which is usually used for images of roads, railway tracks, or buildings viewed in such a way that the front of the building is directly facing the viewer.

Two point perspective is when a drawing contains two vanishing points on the horizon line which where the vanishing points can be placed arbitrarily along the horizon.

Taylor's management announced that all classes were cancelled due to the haze. Mr. Redzwan however, gave us a topic for our sketchbook exercise to be completed over the long 'break'.
